MLT Aikins is looking for an ambitious marketing professional who thrives in a fast-paced and relationship-driven environment. The Marketing Strategist researches and designs marketing strategies and tactical plans to support the firm's strategic practice areas and growth markets. The position is best suited to an individual who enjoys an autonomous approach to work, demonstrates deep industry and market knowledge and is skilled at building strong relationships. The successful candidate will be a strategic thinker with the ability to execute tactics.

Reporting to the Senior Director of Business Development and Solution Delivery, this full-time permanent position will be based in our Calgary or Edmonton office. It will be a hybrid position with a physical presence in the office required to build relationships. Some travel between our offices will be required.

Responsibilities include:

  • Acting as a strategic business partner for marketing and business development needs in Alberta markets and selected practice areas
  • Developing strategies to retain and expand client relationships, acquire new clients and increase market visibility
  • Designing and pitching marketing and business development plans for regional and industry markets
  • Leading plan implementation, co-ordinating progress check-ins and refining plans based on ROI assessments
  • Facilitating decision-making based on internal results, budgets and requests
  • Researching and documenting prospective client profiles and creating marketing plans with future clients in mind
  • Understanding the competitive environment and presenting insights to internal audiences
  • Monitoring client news, industry issues and legal sector trends to suggest opportunities and thought leadership
  • Identifying opportunities to engage with professional and trade organizations
  • Developing a broad understanding of legal services, practice areas and industry offerings
  • Owning and co-ordinating the execution of marketing and business development tactics

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, communications or related field
  • A minimum of five years of experience in professional services marketing or business development (legal, accounting, finance).
  • Niche industry sector expertise (e.g. Alberta market, labor & employment, mergers & acquisitions or transportation) is an asset
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High degree of responsiveness, diplomacy and professionalism
  • Experience developing and executing strategic marketing plans
  • Proven ability to manage projects, collaborate with senior leaders and engage department support
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Thrives under pressure; excellent problem-solver and team player
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Aptitude to learn new software applications
  • Experience with CRM tools is an asset
