This position provides paralegal support for the lawyers in the Edmonton office. Responsibilities cover all aspects of commercial lending transactions, including loans for real estate transactions and development, as well as the preparation and review of documents for such matters.

Our ideal candidate will have a background in commercial lending in addition to a basic understanding of commercial real estate transactional procedures. This candidate will be self-motivated and highly organized, have superior computer proofreading and time management skills and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. They must be able to work independently, follow instructions with minimum supervision and thrive in a fast-paced, professional team environment.

Responsibilities include:

  • Handling all Land Title Office and Personal Property Registry registrations and filings
  • Performing complex editing and formatting for correspondence and documents
  • Maintaining an efficient file system (physical and electronic files)
  • Performing all aspects of commercial lending files from open to close
  • Reviewing all types of commercial lending documents - Commercial Financing, Refinancing, Mortgages, Commitment Letters
  • Preparing all documents with respect to various types of commercial lending transactions - mortgages, general security agreements, officer certificates, basic corporate resolutions, trust letters, directions to pay, general correspondence, etc.

Qualifications include:

  • Graduate of a recognized legal assistant program/and or paralegal program (equivalencies will be considered)
  • Five or more years of commercial lending experience; working with real estate transactions in a law firm setting would be an asset
  • Experience with standard commercial lending transactions - Tax Searches/Certificates, Title Insurance, Land Titles Office, Indian Land Registry and Personal Property Registry
  • Advanced computer skills including Word, Excel, Outlook and document management software
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including proofreading, writing, spelling and grammar skills
  • Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail
  • A client focused approach and commitment to providing exceptional service to internal and external clients
  • Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision and to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work with lawyers, paralegal and support staff in a professional, team-based setting
