We are looking for a Legal Assistant or Paralegal to join our Legal and Regulatory Affairs team in a permanent position. Reporting to the Director, Legal, you will provide expertise and hands-on support in a broad range of functions. This is a unique opportunity for a talented and motivated individual to be a part of a best-in-class, collaborative corporate legal department with a great team dynamic.

Key Elements of the role include:

  • Draft, format, and edit documents, including key contracts;
  • Correspond with internal stakeholders and external customers and counterparties;
  • Administer our contract management system and related contract workflows;
  • Manage credit support documents, such as letters of credit and parent guarantees, manage related workflows, and prepare reports;
  • Maintain corporate records on SharePoint;
  • Prepare various corporate and regulatory filings;
  • Support compliance and records management functions, including using compliance management software and corresponding with regulatory authorities;
  • Assist with corporate governance documentation and records for Emera Energy entities;
  • Participate in project work such as strategy-related projects, process-improvement projects, and support for major business transactions;
  • Perform office administrative functions including scheduling appointments and meetings, managing calendars, email correspondence, expense reports, and travel arrangements.

  • You are a Legal Assistant or Paralegal with a minimum of two years’ professional experience in either role. More experienced candidates are welcome to apply;
  • You have formal Legal Assistant/Paralegal training; a University degree in a related field (BA or equivalent) is not required but is considered an asset;
  • You have prior experience with corporate/commercial legal work;
  • You are a hands-on practitioner, highly organized, and can handle pressure well;
  • You have the ability to handle multiple projects and manage your time effectively to prioritize your workload and meet deadlines;
  • You demonstrate effective communication by applying excellent writing and comprehension skills and are comfortable and able to interact with various internal stakeholder groups, as well as external customers, and counterparties;
  • You know how to relate to people in a variety of situations, be highly trustworthy, discreet, and use good judgment;
  • You are a strong team player and work well independently;
  • You possess strong problem solving and decision-making skills;
  • You possess strong analytical and quantitative skills, are attentive to detail and enjoy working in a dynamic environment;
  • You are highly proficient in the MS Office Suite of software (Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook);
  • You have experience with corporate records management and contract management software (experience with SharePoint and DocuSign would be assets but are not mandatory requirements).
