Lerners is seeking a Legal Assistant to support the Health Law and Dispute Resolution & Advocacy practice groups in the London, Ontario office. The ideal candidate will have over three (3) years of experience working in a similar position. This is a Hybrid position and requires a minimum of three (3) days in office at 85 Dufferin Avenue or as required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Answering and responding to telephone calls.
  • Scheduling calls and meetings.
  • Requesting conflict checks; opening and closing files.
  • Communicating with clients, experts, tribunal staff, and court staff.
  • Drafting, sending, and replying to correspondence.
  • Compiling, serving, and filing motion records and other court or tribunal documents.
  • Maintaining calendars and an effective bring forward (BF) system.
  • Preparing and sending invoices to clients.
  • Transcription of dictation and/or proofreading dictation.
  • File maintenance and organization including scanning and uploading into DMS (document management system).
  • Compiling, uploading, and sending documents externally by way of secure file transfer site(s).
  • Other duties related to the administration of the practice.

    Qualifications:

    • At least 3 (three) years of experience as a Legal Assistant.
    • Experience in Health Law and/or General Civil Litigation.
    • Familiarity with the Rules of Civil Procedure, particularly as they pertains to service rules and deadlines an asset.
      A keen attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
    • A strong work ethic.
    • The ability to work effectively on a team and individually.
    • Excellent written and oral (telephone) communication skills.
    • Experience with technology and working in a remote/ hybrid environment.
    • Experience with ACL, CaseLines/Case Center, Justice Services Online (JSO) portal, RelativityOne, iManage, and/or OneDrive an asset.
