Senior Patent Coordinator

Hybrid Work- on average 3 days/week from office

Minimum 1 day from our Mississauga office and 2 days from our Mississauga or Downtown office

Summary:

Protecting our intellectual property is at the core of AstraZeneca’s future success. As a Senior Patent Coordinator, you will be taking on a role that offers a variety of interesting, important and demanding work. You will be providing essential and specialized support relating to the filing, procurement, and maintenance of patent applications and patents throughout all phases of US, European and international patent prosecution. You will be part of a collaborative, close-knit team that takes enormous pride in its meticulous attention to detail and expertise in patent procurement.

Typical Accountabilities:

  • Patent Application Assistance: Aid attorneys, agents, and patent a in filing new patent applications across US, Europe (EP), and PCT jurisdictions
     

  • Global Filing Oversight: Assist in filing all prosecution-related documents within the USPTO, EPO and patent offices globally. Direct national stage filings with foreign counsel and submit formality documents
     

  • Docket Management: Proactively monitor due dates to meet all deadlines and collaborate with the docketing team to update docketing systems and maintain our records management system.
     

  • Team Support: Participate in and contribute to special projects and initiatives that elevate our processes. 
     

  • Collaborative Dynamics: Regularly engage with patent attorneys, inventors, and third parties


Essential Skills/Experience:

  • At least 5 years’ experience working with US, EP and foreign patent prosecution and formalities in private practice, and/or an in-house IP department.

  • Familiarity with US, EP and foreign patent docketing.

  • Self-motivated, with proven organizational skills and ability to manage multiple, high-priority tasks and deadlines.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with a diverse and international team of attorneys, staff, and inventors.

  • Proficiency with USPTO, EPO and/or ePCT online filing; proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat and MS Excel.


Desirable Skills/Experience:

  • An undergraduate degree and/or a recognized qualification in Patent Administration.

  • Paralegal experience is highly desirable

  • Knowledge of CPA Memotech, Anaqua or similar IP management system.

  • Knowledge of Worksite/iManage or similar document management system.
