Lerners is seeking a Law Clerk to support our Health Law practice group in the Toronto, Ontario office. The ideal candidate will have over 10 (ten) years of experience working in a similar position. This is a Hybrid position and requires a minimum of 3 (three) days in office or as required.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing, summarizing and indexing records
  • Drafting pleadings, motion records, affidavits of documents, status reports, etc.
  • Draft reporting letters to clients
  • Maintaining communication and updates with clients including obtaining documents, responding to inquiries and scheduling meetings
  • Assisting with regular reporting to clients
  • Communicating with plaintiffs' and co-defendants' counsel to obtain appropriate productions
  • Managing productions and medicals in Relativity
  • Summarizing medicals into a medical chronology
  • Analyzing and summarizing other productions
  • Ensuring files are prepared for Examinations for Discovery
  • Identifying appropriate experts, and retaining and communicating with them
  • Reviewing discovery transcripts and following up for and tracking undertakings
  • Preparing for trials and hearings
  • Managing electronic hearings and trials
  • Maintaining the electronic Bring Forward database and managing client milestone reporting
  • Drafting closing documents including draft orders, consents, and releases
  • Arranging surveillance
  • Maintaining files

Qualifications:

  • At least ten (10) years of experience as a Law Clerk, with a preference for experience in Health Law
  • Initiative and drive to move files forward
  • Strong organizational skills, time management skills, and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Emphasis on delivering a high level of professional service to clients
  • A keen ability to work independently and as part of a fast-paced team
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
  • Experience using Relativity, Document Management Systems and ACL would be an asset
