This job is based in the thriving and diverse city of Whitehorse in the beautiful Yukon.
The Family and Children's Services Branch is responsible for territory wide delivery of child protection services and programs that support positive and healthy outcomes for children, youth and their families. The unit responds to complex and crisis situations and works with families to ensure continued safety and well-being of children. Collaborative working relationships with Yukon First Nations and Indigenous Governing bodies are critical in this work. This unit also provides on-call services 24/7 to ensure that a response to concerns of child harm is available, at any time, every day of the year.
Your role
Reporting to the Manager of Family Services the Family Services Supervisor is a challenging and highly rewarding position that has supervisory responsibilities for programs and services legislated by the Child and Family Services Act (CFSA). This position is accountable for providing supervision to child protection social workers, social worker assistants, and case aides; managing a broad range of services that protect children and youth from harm; interpreting policy, legislation and practice standards; assigning and evaluating work while managing workload demands including identifying learning needs, interests of staff, conducts performance evaluations, and provides formal feedback.
The ideal candidate will have a passion and commitment to children's services. This role requires an individual with well-developed interpersonal and supervisory skills, time management and good organizational skills, culturally sensitive, the ability to work collaboratively and committed to relationship-based social work ensuring the community is a safe and caring environment in which children and their families may develop to their full potential.
